USK gets a break-through on the Indian market
We have been developing and building a highly automated assembly plant for the Lakshmi Machine Works (LMW) textile machine manufacturer based in the southern Indian city of Coimbatore. The largest textile manufacturer in the world wishes to use the new plant technology from Saxony to meet the greater demands for quality. The USK unit sets up pressure and guide roller systems (what are known as top rollers) for spinning machines in a cycle time of just 6.5 seconds. USK will supply the set-up unit in August 2007 and then support the machine run-up process in India for a further six months. LMW has a domestic market share of 83 percent and a 33 percent share of the global market, making it one of India s leading companies with a reputation for innovation and technical advances. Against this background, foreign companies, which cooperate with LMW, have ideal opportunities of further extending their business relations in this Asian country, which is characterised by a constant economic growth.

Karl Utz awarded a great distinction
On Monday, 15 January 2007, State premier Georg Milbradt awarded the Saxon Order of Merit to eleven citizens, who have made an outstanding contribution to life in Saxony. The tradition of mechanical engineering goes back a long way in Saxony. Karl Utz took the winding up of the mechanical engineering industry in the former GDR as an opportunity to expand his company group, which is based in Korb in Swabia. He set up the USK Karl Utz Sondermaschinen Kändler in Limbach-Oberfrohna in 1990 using 30 former members of staff from the former VEB Mechanisierung combine. The company designs and builds complex assembly machines for industrial customers and without these machines, it would be impossible to carry out any high-tech production nowadays. Thanks to his prudent business policy, Mr Utz has not only been able to increase the company s turnover, but also raise the number of staff from 30 to 220. This makes the company one of the largest employers in Limbach-Oberfrohna and it also has been able to establish itself internationally with major orders from the USA and India. As a result of its consistent customer orientation, the company has become an important partner for well-known industrial names such as DaimlerChrysler, BMW or VW Mechatronic.
