S-PAC – Saxon Cluster for automation in photovoltaics

 “We will automate the PV world” – with this challenge, six companies and four research facilities from the Chemnitz - Dresden region founded the Saxon Photovoltaics-Automation cluster S-PAC.

Engineering of innovative automation and assembly technologies for cell manufacturing and module assembly of the latest and the next generation of products with 100 MWp factory modules

Development is aimed at

  • Engineering of new technologies for cell handling based on gravity, that is, preferably without grip forces (gravity handling)

  • Engineering of new automation concepts and technologies for single-tool, cluster and line automation to produce the latest and the next generation of solar cells

  • Development of technological expertise to assemble the latest and the next generation of cells

  • Creation of new factory and automation approaches with modular resource-efficient compact equipment for the new dimension of the module production with 100MWp factory modules

Project duration: From February 2011 to January 2014

PERLA – Fundamental explorations for a technological leap in the assembly of cell-based solar modules with performance lay-up

The goal of the PERLA project was to develop an innovative technique to produce the cellular compound for solar cells in cell-based solar modules. Several technologies for a more productive circuit technique to connect the  solar cells were investigated

A test pattern for a high performance stringer, on which 6 strings are shaped simultaneously, was created. The nominal output of the 6-fold stringer is 3.000 cells per hour.
